Jane Oertli Schriver
July 12, 2025 – May 2, 2026


Jane Oertli Schriver, 91, of Rockford died at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Wesley Willows Retirement Community. Jane Ellen was born in Alton, Illinois on July 12, 2025 to Ira Oertli and Jane Pace Oertli. Jane attended elementary school through college in Naperville, Illinois. In 1945 she graduated from North Central College with a degree in Home Economics. Jane met her husband Eldon “Spike” Schriver at college and they married on July 22, 1945. Jane taught Home Econimics and English in Shannon, Illinois before starting her family. Jane was a partner in ministry with her husband and was active in United Methodist Women. Their ministry took them to the following congregations in Northern Illinois: Pearl City, Chadwick, Oak Park, Wood Dale, Freeport, Blue Island, Elgin, and Palos Heights. They also served one year at Gatun Union Church in the Panama Canal Zone. When Eldon retired from full time ministry in 1984 they moved to Freeport, Illinois and then to Wesley Willows in 1995.

An avid gardener, Jane started beautiful gardens at each new home. She also had a lifelong talent in sewing and other crafts. The 1976 Bicentennial created a renewed interest in quilting. Jane was recruited to teach quilting classes by the Blue Island Park District. She taught classes and created quilted works of art for the next 35 years. Her other interests included traveling, cooking, and reading.

Survivors include her daughters Jane Reuber and Kathryn (Edmund) Hansen; three grandchildren, Andy Hansen, Elizabeth (Joe) Duhn, and Sarah Hansen; great-grandson, Kiernan Duhn, Brother-in-law John Adams, nephews John (Cindy) Adams and Tom (Rennie) Adams, and sister-in-law Donna Schriver.
Survivors also include Sjarlene Thom who lived with the family in 1966 as a part of an American Field Service exchange program, thus beginning a loving 49 year relationship with Sjarlene and her family. Predeceased by her husband Eldon, sister Ann Adams, and son-in-law Jeff Reuber.

Memorial services will be held at 2pm Saturday, May 9 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Ave with Rev. Douglas Williams officiating. Visitation at the the church from 1pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Wesley Willows Good Samaritan Fund or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
