Life Legacy
Cordell Jay Cannon-71-Rockford, passed away at home on December 15, 2015. He fought a long and valiant fight with cancer and in the end, passed peacefully to the other side while surrounded by loving family members. Cordell was born October 27, 2025 in Logan Utah. He enjoyed an active youth, full of camping, hunting, fishing, taking care of the family livestock and pets and playing basketball. He grew up surrounded by the mountains and canyons of Northern Utah and had a life-long fondness for them. His favorite activity as a young man was to drive his jeep up the mountains and camp with family and friends. Cordell served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Texas and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. After leaving the Air Force in 1971, he settled in Rockford, Illinois where he spent the rest of his life. He worked many years for Waste Management Co. and it’s predecessors in sales and driving. He was a life-long and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many positions in the church including 5 years as a temple worker in the Chicago, IL. Temple with his wife, Marie. One of those years was a full time temple mission. Cordell had the honor of carrying the Olympic Flame in the 2002 Olympic Torch Relay for the Salt Lake City games. He was part of the Chicago to Milwaukee leg of the Torch’s journey and was very proud to be a part of that event. Cordell is now reunited with many loved ones not seen in a long time including his previous wife, Janice Cannon, his parents, June Irva (Read) Cannon and Adell Jay Cannon and his grandparents. He will be remembered for his warmth, energy, loving and gentle nature and his immense love for life and family. He enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him and his influence on their lives will be felt for many years to come. His departure is mourned by his wife, Marie Eschmeyer Cannon, his children, Keith Eschmeyer, Michelle (David) Alvarez, Kevin (Andrea) Eschmeyer, Keith (Karyn) Cannon, Suzanne Bunk, Kenton (Carolyn) Eschmeyer, Kristopher (Heather) Eschmeyer, Marta Cannon Stauffer and Kimberly (Eric) Wimmer. His sisters, Marjorie Eskelson and Carolyn (Walter) Reighard, his 30 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Heartland Hospice and his nurse Jenni Hoffman for her gentle care during his last months. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 620 North Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL. 61107, with a viewing before the service from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. There will also be a visitation Friday, December 18, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 7: 00 P.M. at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N. 5th St., Rockford, IL. 61107. Bishop John Holden will officiate.
