Life Legacy
Herold Paul Broesder, 92, of Rockford, went to be with his Lord and Savior
Wednesday, June 5, 2026 in Provena St. Anne Center. He was born September 14,
1920, in German Valley, IL, the son of Elzo and Anna (Boomgarden) Broesder. He
married Louise H. Roush in Rockford on July 26, 1942. Herold was a 1938 graduate of Rockford Central High School. He proudly served in the Navy, on the U.S.S. Oconto in the Pacific theater, during 1944-46. He worked for 32 years at Sundstrand before retiring in 1972 due to health concerns. He also worked for the Rockford Park District and Reese & Reese Law Firm. Herold was actively involved in his community, serving on the Rockford Public School Board, as a Republican precinct committeeman, election judge, West End Business Association, Northwest Suburban Fire District Board, president of various school support groups, and for years the announcer at sporting events at Auburn High School. He was the oldest living member, and past master, of Star in the East Lodge #166, Freeport Consistory, the American Legion and president of the Sundstrand Retirees. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, lawn work, reading and traveling, but most of all his family. He loved the Lord and sought to serve Him daily. Herold's sense of humor, jokes, and firm handshakes will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Louise; daughters, Jane & Randy
Reese, Rockford, and Paula & Joe Keys, Virginia Beach, VA. Five grandchildren,
Joshua & Wendy Reese, Eagle River, WI, Marcus & Ingrid Reese, Anchorage, AK,
Jacob & Heather Reese, Rockford, Jennifer Keys, and Sarah & Michael Clark,
Virginia Beach, VA. Nine great-grandchildren, Claire, Anna, Ellyn, Lauren, Greta, Ole, Fenn, Tristan, Skylar. Also many nieces and nephews and their families, and Astrea Saloma Villa, Philippines, foreign exchange student daughter. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Helen O'Dell.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30, Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Westminster
Presbyterian Church, Rockford, with Pastor Joshua Reese, of St. Germain
Evangelical Free Church officiating. Private burial service in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family, to be named later. Herold's family would like to thank Wendy Slick-Davision for her love, care and support over the years, and the staff of St. Anne's Center.
